Senior Geologist

Bapco Upstream - Bahrain - Manama

Job Purpose/Summary:

A senior geologist’s main objective is to handle and oversee geological projects through developing geological models and building subsurface understanding of petroleum systems, reservoir properties, geochemical, sedimentological and petrographical systems. The ultimate goal is to improve the prospect inventories and reserves portfolio.


Job Accountabilities/ Responsibilities:

  • Integrates available well data, rock analysis, seismic and non-seismic interpretations and other geological and geophysical data to build conceptual petroleum systems models
  • Evaluates and updates – and develop where necessary – geological basin models through the integration of various sets of geological, geophysical and geochemical data sets.
  • Interprets and evaluates well data including but not limited wireline logs, mud and gas logs and rock analysis studies.
  • Develop structural and stratigraphic models for reservoirs and plays of interest.
  • Conducts sedimentological and mineralogical analysis on available data and develop sedimentological and depositional models for various Formations and reservoirs of interest.
  • Proposes, plans and oversees core, cuttings and fluid lab analysis studies to develop understanding of various plays and reservoirs.
  • Conducts advanced geological risk evaluation for different leads, prospects and plays.
  • Conducts advanced resources volumetric estimations using various deterministic and statistical techniques to support the evaluation of different leads, prospects and play concepts.
  • Evaluates and recommends drilling locations for exploration and appraisal wells.
  • Supports, monitors and follows-up with well-site geologist during drilling operations.
  • Coordinates external and third-party geological studies and engagements.
  • Represent company’s interest during Joint Study Agreements with International Oil Companies.
  • Represent the company in technical committees of Exploration and Production Sharing Agreements (EPSAs) and other partnership arrangements.


Qualifications:

Education:

B.Sc. in Geosciences, Earth sciences or any related discipline with specialization in geology and/or sedimentogy highly preferred.


Experience:

  • 15+ year’s experience in applied geology in the oil industry
  • Experience in exploration settings is highly preferred.
  • Experience in unconventional plays is highly preferred.
  • Experience in diverse structural settings (extensional, strike-slip, compressional) preferred


Skills:

Excellent knowledge of spoken/ written English – required

Strong data integration, mapping and workstation skills – required

Proficiency in specialized interpretation applications - required (Petrel, Techlog and Geox proficiency preferred)

Good team work skills, communication and presentation skills
