SENIOR QUANTITY SURVEYOR ROLE - BAHRAIN


About the Company

We are a renowned and dynamic international firm of construction consultants, our main core services being quantity surveying and project management. We were established in London in 1955 based on the original founders' combined interest in international projects, mainly Saudi Arabia. This soon spread to the whole Gulf region, the Caribbean, Africa and the Far East. Whilst maintaining a strong presence in the UK, there was always a great emphasis on international markets. We opened our first Middle East office in Bahrain in 1972 and since then have operated in all Gulf states. Significant amounts of work continue to be in the Middle East. We have offices in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia as well as the UK.


About the Role

Due to our business rapidly expanding, we are looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to work in our Bahrain office. The ideal candidates will be driven and goal orientated, deliver to client targets and manage the cost consultancy offering in a way which enhances the company brand.


Responsibilities

  • Responsible for full SQS duty of pre and post contract including the following:
  • Advising on a procurement strategy to suit the client priorities;
  • Identifying commercial risks and helping to develop suitable responses using value engineering exercises;
  • Preparing tender documents including obtaining tender information, preparing bills of quantities including measurements and managing tender queries;
  • Preparing and managing the procurement exercise, including issuing tenders, tender report including tender comparison, tender analysis, tender interview, negotiating and finalising award;
  • Preparing and compiling contract documents including advice on use and/or amendments of a standard form of contract or contributing to the drafting of particular requirements in association with the client's legal advisor;
  • Preparing interim payment certificates including carrying out site valuation and assessment of contract payment application;
  • Managing and monitoring project costs in line with the approved budget including regularly issuing financial reports to the client that show current project cost including incorporate all authorised/estimated change orders;
  • Managing the assessment of variations and the financial aspects of the project change control process including negotiating with the contractor and recommending adjustments to the contract sum;
  • Assisting where possible on a range of legal and contractual issues;
  • Managing completion of final accounts.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or similar discipline;
  • 5 years, post degree, work experience outside of Bahrain;
  • RICS qualified a bonus;
  • CRPEP Licence preferred;
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service and communication skills;
  • Ability to multitask;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Proficient in Estimating Software;
  • Knowledge of POMI, NRM & CESMM Methods of Measurement;
  • Knowledge of FIDIC, Ministry of Works and other standard forms of Contract;
  • Knowledge of construction methods, costs and engineering principles.
