VAM Systems is currently looking for Senior Infrastructure Engineer for our Bahrain operations with the following skillsets & terms and conditions:
Role Requirements
Experience: 5+ years in UNIX/Linux Systems Administration with a proven track record of root-cause troubleshooting, OS upgradation, lifecycle patching, and firmware upgrades across severe hardware/OS infrastructure disruptions.
Hypervisor Mastery: Engineering-level competence maintaining guest workloads and virtual layers across LDOMs, VMware, KVM, and Hyper-V environments.
Hardware, Network & OS Expertise: Deep cross-functional proficiency in managing multi-vendor compute hardware architectures alongside multiple operating systems (Solaris SPARC & enterprise Linux), coupled with a strong foundational knowledge of core network infrastructure (switching, routing, and VLAN isolation tools).
Data Protection Competency: Proven experience managing enterprise backup fabrics using Veeam and OpenText Data Protector, including backup job optimization and bare-metal verification testing
Key Responsibilities
OS Upgradation & Lifecycle Patching: Architect, plan, and execute zero-downtime OS upgradation and monthly OS patching schedules across a mixed fleet of Oracle Solaris 10/11 and enterprise Linux distributions (RHEL/Ubuntu) using native utilities such as Solaris Alternate Boot Environments (ABE), pkg, beadm, and Linux yum/dnf/apt.
Firmware Upgrade & Hardware Remediation: Routinely manage firmware upgrades for critical platform assets including system BIOS/UEFI, storage controllers, host bus adapters (HBAs), and network interfaces across multi-vendor systems (Oracle/Sun SPARC servers, Dell PowerEdge, and HPE ProLiant frames). Isolate, troubleshoot, and fix complex physical hardware faults.
Platform Operations & Troubleshooting: Maintain, tune, and optimize bare-metal systems and guest kernels. Rapidly diagnose and fix critical OS-level panics, memory leaks, and performance bottlenecks using advanced tools like DTrace or system core dumps.
Virtualization Architecture: Plan, deploy, and allocate compute, memory, and storage boundaries across enterprise infrastructure utilizing LDOMs, VMware, KVM, and Hyper-V hypervisors.
KVM Implementation & Tuning: Deploy, configure, and maintain KVM hypervisors using virsh and libvirt, optimizing VirtIO kernel modules and guest image formats for high-throughput enterprise Linux applications.
Network Integration & Routing: Apply advanced Networking Knowledge to manage host-level network configurations, including 802.1Q VLAN tagging, LACP link aggregation/bonding, and virtual switching. Implement and troubleshoot static routing tables, manage multi-homed systems, and prevent asymmetric routing across production tiers.
Enterprise Backup & Recovery Operations: Manage and orchestrate large-scale data retention policies, backup jobs, and bare-metal disaster recovery strategies. Administer Veeam Backup & Replication for virtualized workloads alongside OpenText Data Protector for legacy tape and disk targets.
