Job Details

As a Secondary English Teacher, you will be responsible for creating an environment that supports student success and a love for English. Your specific responsibilities include:

Planning and delivering engaging, inclusive English lessons that challenge students and promote independent learning across Key Stages 3 and 4.

Employing a variety of teaching strategies, including project-based learning, group work, and digital tools to inspire a passion for both language and literature.

Maintaining high standards in both student work and behavior, ensuring all students are supported to achieve their best.

Encouraging critical thinking and reflective reading and writing through the study of diverse texts and genres.

Regularly assessing students' progress and providing detailed feedback that helps guide their development in both language skills and literary analysis.

Collaborating with the English department to ensure consistent and effective teaching practices across year groups.

Contributing to the continuous development of the English curriculum to ensure it is stimulating, relevant, and accessible for all students.

Supporting students in their journey toward becoming confident, articulate communicators and independent thinkers.

Maintaining a classroom atmosphere that fosters open discussions, respectful debate, and the development of ideas.

Actively integrating technology in lessons to enhance the learning experience and encourage digital literacy.

Participating in professional development opportunities to stay ahead of teaching trends and support your personal growth as an educator.

Contributing to the wider life of the school by engaging in extracurricular activities, such as literary clubs, creative writing workshops, or school plays.

Keeping accurate records of student progress and working closely with parents to share achievements and areas for improvement.

Upholding the school's safeguarding policies, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all students.

Assisting in the preparation and administration of English-related assessments and examinations.

Contributing to the school s vision by taking on additional roles as required by the Head of English or Senior Leadership Team.


Desired Candidate Profile

We are looking for a reflective practitioner who:

Experience teaching English in a secondary school setting, with a solid understanding of both English literature and language teaching strategies.

A degree in English, English Literature, or a related subject.

A recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS).

Prior experience in teaching English at the secondary level, with a strong track record of student progress (preferred).

In-depth knowledge of the current English curriculum and assessment frameworks.

A passion for inspiring young people and nurturing their creativity and intellectual growth.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students and colleagues alike.
