Capital School Bahrain – British Curriculum International School

Capital School Bahrain is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, experienced, and skilled Head of English / Teacher to lead our growing secondary English department.

The successful candidate will lead English across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, ensuring high standards of teaching, learning, and student achievement throughout the department. They will also teach English across KS3, IGCSE (KS4), and A-Level English Literature (KS5), delivering engaging lessons that develop students’ reading, writing, speaking, analytical, and critical thinking skills.

The successful candidate will play a key role in curriculum development, departmental improvement, and preparing students for success in external examinations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and develop the English department across KS3, KS4, and KS5.
  • Deliver high-quality English lessons across KS3, IGCSE English Language and Literature, and A-Level English Literature.
  • Plan engaging, well-sequenced lessons aligned to the English National Curriculum.
  • Ensure effective curriculum planning, assessment, and progression across all key stages.
  • Prepare students successfully for external examinations.
  • Develop students’ literacy, critical reading, extended writing, and analytical skills.
  • Monitor student progress and use assessment data to inform teaching and learning.
  • Support and develop colleagues within the English department.
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour, effort, and academic standards.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider school leadership team to support whole-school priorities.

The ideal candidate will have

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • A bachelor’s degree in English or a related subject.
  • Strong subject knowledge in English Language and Literature.
  • Proven experience teaching KS3 and IGCSE English (essential).
  • Experience leading or managing an English department (essential for Head of English applicants).
  • Experience teaching A-Level English Literature (desirable).
  • Excellent classroom practice and strong behaviour management skills.
  • A commitment to inclusive practice, student wellbeing, and academic excellence.
