1. Determine and closely monitor the optimum performance of the units using simulation models to improve safety, reliability, environmental performance, and profitability of the process units by addressing the real or the impending operating problems. Monitor Departmental and Refinery Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and prepare presentations on performance trends for senior management of TSD.
2. Manage all aspects of catalyst management except direct procurement, including evaluating the catalyst proposals and providing recommendations for purchase in line with overall company profitability. Work with Procurement Department to develop safe and environmentally acceptable strategies for spent catalyst disposal, evaluate proposals, and provide recommendations for award of purchase order. Oversee all aspects of finished product chemical additive management to ensure that the Refinery finished products meet specifications.
3. Participate in the review, updating and the maintenance of the Refinery Stock Balance Manual (SBM) to ensure that customer requirements and market demands are met, and that the Refinery stays competitive in the marketplace.
4. Identify opportunities for improvement, undertake detailed and complex process engineering and feasibility studies to establish the viability and economics of projects. Participate in the Chevron Project Development and Execution Process (CPDEP) - leads Phase 1 for smaller profit projects and assists the Process Specialist leading Phase 2 for larger profit projects.
5. Participate in & provide process engineering expertise for process Incident Investigations (IIR), Management of Change (MOC) reviews, formal Hazard & Operability (Hazop) Studies, Safety Integrity Level (SIL) reviews, Integrated Operating Structure (IOS) meeting, Governance meetings and Pre-Start-up Safety Reviews (PSSR) to ensure process unit operability, reliability and safety and sustainable, profitable operation.
6. Participate in unit T&I and shutdown preparation and execution activities to ensure integrity and functionality of the equipment including the preparation of equipment inspection job list, detailed column and vessel internal inspection, cleanliness of equipment and, correct installation of internals as per equipment drawings.
7. Develop process flow diagrams and ensure that this stay updated after approval. Review and co-approve piping and instrument diagrams. Draft the relevant Quality Assurance standards and ensures that these are followed once approved.
8. Support the preparation of the budget for catalysts and chemicals and Khuff gas used on the process units, check usage performance and the stocking levels as per the budget, liaise with catalyst and chemicals suppliers, initiate procurement activities, to ensure that the right catalysts and chemicals are always available to sustain safe and profitable unit operation.

Responsibilities:
- Reporting to Process Specialist, the position of Senior Engineer is held accountable for providing expert refinery process engineering service that supports and has a direct impact on all activities related to the safe, profitable, and sustainable operation of the process units fall under the assigned area of operations. Works with minimal supervision in routine matters however decides on the non-routine matters only in consultation with the Process Specialist. The job is subject to review upon completion.
- The job holder is expected to use initiative, expertise, experience and knowledge of process engineering and process technology to make firm recommendations on operating strategies, critical process variables, operating problems, and operating conditions to ensure continued, safe, trouble-free, and optimum operation of the process units and maximize profitability.
- Participates in and provides the process engineering and refinery planning and economics expertise to minor and major projects, investigations, and technical reviews. Prepares recommendations for Process Licensor and technology selection for major projects and awards to Licensors for preparation of basic Engineering Design Packages and proprietary services and equipment.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 7 (seven) years of relevant experience, including refinery process engineering and/or refinery planning and economics.
- Sound understanding of the process units and the interactions with upstream and downstream units, and solid practical knowledge of process unit operations – expert knowledge of one or more refinery process technologies is also an advantage.
- Expertise in rigorous process simulation and/or high-level LP modelling skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Good planning & organization skills with ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- A team player, highly developed critical thinker, self-motivated person.
