Job Description

General Description:  Under general supervision is responsible for performing a variety of routine laboratory tests in support of production and R&D efforts.  Some travel is required.


Duties and Responsibilities:   The Harsco Lab Technician is responsible for assisting the Quality Dept. in the overall quality of all products produced at various Harsco sites by assisting or performing the following responsibilities:


  • Analysis of various process plant streams for various parameters like moisture, salt content ph, conductivity etc & advice the Shift Controller for further actions.
  • Analysis of various consignments of Chemical receivables, acids, bases & disposal streams.
  • Analysis of Stack emissions & adhere to regulatory levels & reporting. 
  • Sample collections as per set standards with full personal protection.
  • Work on lab equipment’s like Ovens, Moisture analyzers, scales & associated glassware.
  • Assist in plant startup/shutdown & troubleshooting of two lines of wet processing plant & associated common systems by timely analysis & advice to the shift team.
  • Analysis of hazardous gas related systems & chemicals.
  • Interpretation of chemical analysis & action accordingly.
  • Adhere to company safety & operational procedures.
  • Recording of analytical data & interpret the health of process & initiate action.
  • Authorize for maintenance of equipment as per the work permit & LOTO procedures.
  • Flexibility in covering other operational roles.

Qualifications

Level of education required:  Minimum - High School Diploma


Preferred – PennDOT Certified Aggregate Technician.  Some College is helpful in the chemistry or engineering fields.  Work related experience in the quarry, mineral or coal processing fields is helpful.  Work related experience as a lab technician is desired.  A statistics background and computer experience is needed.


Specific skills/experience needed:   Strong math, computer, and organizational skills are necessary.  Minimum 5 years work experience. Must be able to lift a minimum of 75 lbs.
